In Idukki District, Marayoor village is located 42 kilometers from Munnar along the Munnar-Udumbalpetta route. It is surrounded by Marayoor Sandalwood Forest, Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary, Kurinjimala Sanctuary, and Pampadum Chola, forest region. The major cultivation in this region is sugarcane. The Marayoor Jaggery is a traditional and handmade product from the Idukki district of Kerala. Marayoor Jaggery is known to be one of the sweetest jaggery available in India. . It is made using only traditional methods. It is dark brown in color,high in sweetness and iron, with less sodium content and insoluble impurities.

It is made from sugarcane using a technology that has a 400-year-old tradition. As it is grown in hilly areas and raised in fog and yawning rain and wind, one gets a high-quality, delicious yield from agriculture. Therefore, there will be no taste of salt or cyst. Moreover, the original taste of the sugar cane can be preserved. Workers from Onakkallur, a village in Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu, are engaged in the production of the Marayoor jaggery.

Marayur jaggery is the ninth product to get a Geographical indication tag with the help of the Agricultural University's Intellectual Property Cell. The Marayoor Jaggery received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Central Government on March 8, 2019.
